RENAL FAILURE

CHRONIC RENAL FAILURE (CRF)

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a serious illness requiring restrictive treatment with several weekly dialysis sessions of around four hours each.

Between 1.7 million and 2.5 million people suffer from chronic kidney disease (CKD), and around 70,500 have end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Around 46% receive a kidney transplant, while the remainder are treated by dialysis.

Kidney disease often requires complex treatment and precise, personalised follow-up.

The average age of patients is rising every year, and they are becoming less independent, with an increasing number of co-morbidities. Two out of five patients treated by dialysis suffer from diabetes and/or multiple pathologies. With an ageing population, the needs are immense, and the number of patients is increasing by 3% a year.
